The Iowa Funeral Directors Association does not guarantee these figures, rather provides them as a reasonable projection of what interns and newly licensed funeral directors may expect.

Interns

Average salary: $26,413.05

Salary range: $20,000 - $38,000

Benefits may include: Family/Individual health insurance, life insurance, profit sharing, housing, car allowance, clothing allowance, retirement fund and bonuses.

Interns may expect to work an average of 43.9 hours per week. Job duties may include: making funeral arrangements, making removals, prep room responsibilities, washing cars, embalming, dressing, paper work, assistance with aftercare programs and general cleaning duties.

Newly licensed funeral directors

(Funeral directors with up to three years experience.)

Average salary: $34,695.66
$38,150 with a 4-year degree

Salary range: $24,000 - $40,000+
$32,000 - $40,000+ with 4-year degree
