Annual IFDA Convention
A three-day event that allows members to learn from highly respected leaders in the funeral service industry, discover new products and services offered by cutting-edge suppliers, and network with funeral directors from throughout the state.
In 2020, the Convention will be May 19-21 at Prairie Meadows Event Center in Altoona.
District meetings provide members with quality, pre-approved continuing education programs at no cost while allowing you to network with friends and colleagues in your area.
Annual OSHA Training
Generally held in the late autumn, IFDA hosts OSHA Training annually via the Iowa Communications Network (ICN). The ICN allows IFDA members to obtain "live" hours in a location near your business. In 2016, over 300 funeral directors obtained their OSHA Training at locations across Iowa.
All employees at funeral homes are required by OSHA to be trained in bloodborne pathogens, formaldehyde exposure, and hazard communications. Yes, the training is MANDATORY! The Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires annual training for all "at risk" or "potentially at risk" funeral home employees, managers and owners. All funeral home employees, trade people and other contractors who work in or around the embalming room, or directly with bodies or the effects of the deceased, must have this training.
It is possible for one or two people from each firm to attend the OSHA Training and then provide training at the funeral home for other "at risk" or "potentially at risk" funeral home employees.
