|Des Moines Area Community College|
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) is the only college in Iowa offering a Mortuary Science Advance Standing diploma to students who wish to pursue a career in the funeral service profession. The Iowa Department of Education approved the one-year program in early 2004. In April 2005, the program became accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). The DMACC registration and admissions office and DMACC counselors will determine the courses accepted as transfer from another accredited educational institution to fulfull requirements for the program.
Program admission requires at least an associate's degree or 64 hours of credits before enrollment. Prospective students applying for admission are encouraged to enroll in requisite courses at DMACC or at another Iowa community college. Many of the Iowa community colleges as well as public universities and private colleges and universities have a Pre-Mortuary Science curriculum. Students are required to participate in a minimum one-year internship with a funeral director, required by Iowa regulations.
Des Moines Area Community College is the official source for all information relative to the Mortuary Science Program. The Iowa Funeral Directors Association is providing prospective students with the above information so students can make an informed decision regarding curriculum requirements and begin the process of entering funeral service.
If you are a new student who has never taken coursework at DMACC, you must first be admitted to the college. (For selected credit programs students may need to complete additional admissions requirements before they can register for the program.) To request a DMACC application, call 1.800.362.2127, ext. 6495, or contact the Mortuary Science Program Chair, Kevin E. Patterson, at 515-964-6244 or email him at email@example.com.
If you are currently enrolled, returning, or a former DMACC student and are planning to enroll in the Mortuary Science Program, please complete the DMACC application for admission form. In the section titled: DMACC Degree and Program, enter MORTUARY SCIENCE in the field titled PROGRAM.
